Earmarks

Frustrated artist Whutnot says: It’s really infuriating how Palin and McCain keep claiming to be reformers.  It is simply not true.  Under Palin, Alaska recieved the most earmarks per capita of ANY state.  and McCain agrees with the Bush administration’s policies.  only a week until the election.  Please make the best vote for this country.

A Hard Night’s Debate

The face of McCain

A pretty cool idea from Atara for a running observation, purely artistic, of the debate. I actually myself enjoyed the facial expressions of the pair as they sparred verbally. It’s interesting to see the couple of times when they lapse out of their normal, smiling, calm and assuring I-can-win faces. I would’ve tried this exercise myself, but unfortunately, we’ve reached the end of our two candidates going face to face live. For more lighthearted fun with the candidates, be sure to check out their comedy night where both Obama and McCain did a great job of making fun of each other and themselves.

Anyway we’ll hopefully see more from Atara soon! :D

A Scary Thought

Boo!

Today is just a cute comic I thought was a pretty appropriate look at “scare tactics” by Josh Nickerson. Sarah Palin has, this week and last, been making unrealistic attacks about Obama at almost all her rallies, from saying he pals around with terrorists, to questioning his intention with America. No wonder the people have become frightened to death of Obama, resulting in the creepy almost cult-like shouts of “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!” when his name is mentioned at a Palin/McCain rally. Palin’s scare tactics seemed to have worked, with dire consequences to the people and to Obama himself (The Secret Service steps in to investigate Obama death threats, Source: AP). Just how far will these scare tactics go? And, gods-forbid, should Sarah Palin become President, how will she use scare tactics on you?

On the plus side, at least McCain has tried to quell the angry beast that has sprung from these scare tactics… Perhaps he realizes that they’ve gone too far. He’s trying to defeat his opponent in a polite way, but with his mobs I don’t know if it will work.

The Life of McCain #2

The life of John McCain

The second in the series of looks on McCain’s life, this one takes a closer look at the Prisoner-of-War aspect of McCain. You can read more about this period of his life in a short autobiography-esque article published online here: A First Person Account. Interestingly, McCain seems to have almost total recall, so it’s certainly an deep and harrowing read.

On the “gook” comment in the last panel, more can be read about here. I am an “Asian” American (with no affinity to any major Asian nation or group), and I find this quite offensive. While I do believe that I, in a similar situation to McCain’s experience with torture, would probably also resort to base and racist slurs, I really don’t think I would ever express that to the press and especially not as a presidential candidate. I would also hope that a leader of a country as diverse and expansive as the United States would be able to look past vengeful and racist thoughts. Also, the fact that McCain throws the word “gook” around like candy annoys me. The fact that the media didn’t even properly cover this phrase angers me as well(for example, I was having a lot of trouble trying to find a good article on this from a reliable online source). Would this have passed under the radar if he had instead said nigger? Asians are a minority here, and I’m tired of being forgotten in the battle of being politically correct for every other race and subgroup.

Halloween Costume Forecast

A sneak peek at this Halloween's hottest trends

Well, this picture speaks for itself! The dead Palins are great, that’s probably her rising from the dead for the second coming. Another set of characters making a comeback will probably be real pop-culture mavericks, like Tom Cruise’s Maverick from Top Gun, and Mel Gibson’s Maverick from the movie of the same name. And I’m sure there will be more than one unfortunate family pet dressed up with lipstick of some sort.

A Rock Band McCain Can Use

Written by Auilix on October 9, 2008 in: Bites | Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Presenting the Change Firsts

So since McCain has been unable to use a multitude of songs for his campaign (Source: New York Times), has decided to make a band that he CAN use to his advantage. Created in Rock Band by inkasylum, Change First is a dynamic, if a bit uneven band. Their two very different styles cause them to appear to be fighting each other for the spotlight; Usually BaRock is in center stage, but Mavrik is oft vying for that position with his stinging and repetitive lyrics. Some favorites titles off the new album coming out in November include “My Friends,” “Yes We Can,” and “Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.”

The life of John McCain

A new series of comics by Auilix that take a sort of objective look at the life of the candidates. I started here with McCain (and I hope to get a page about Obama in as well before the debate), and it’s going to be short but (hopefully) informative looks at the candidates. Here we see early/pre-politics John McCain.

On citations - I got a lot of specific information on the McCain wiki article, and my own personal knowledge that I’ve heard candidates talk about. I would try to get more citations here on the topics, but it’s hard to find good objective news articles at this point in the race.

Sarah vs. the press... again

Says Electric Panda: “Would you trust someone with as vice-president when their own running mate doesn’t?”
An interesting point and an interesting article… After all, we don’t see McCain fumble as other candidates, and so perhaps it’s more than just a slip.
